{christmas wish} when all is not calm

December 1st we mapped out the month.

Day to day filled up.
Christmas fun on top of basketball travel and final
school projects
have the Howells in a hustle.
It takes work to gather and find peace in the crazy.

Making room to fit it all in is tricky.
Surely Mary wondered how
God would work His plan out.

She asked,
and the angel answered Mary,
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you,
and the power of the Most High
 will overshadow you…”

I can’t imagine hearing from Gabriel
not only news of an impossible pregnancy,
but the mission of the baby to come.

“He will be great and will be called
the Son of the Most High,
And the Lord God will give to him
the throne of his father David
and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever,
and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

The town was a buzz.
Families traveling.
People everywhere.
Hotels were packed out.

Mary in desperate need for rest,
for comfort
kept pressing on for the place
God had assigned for His Son to
be welcomed.

She trusted God with His plan.
She knew she held the promised Messiah
and so she continued on like
any faithful chosen woman of God would.

Even in the hustle that night…
Even in the hustle tonight,
God remains faithful and steady.
The busy can’t keep Him from
showing up as He promised.

When we are in desperate need
 for rest, for comfort…
still we press on for the place
God has assigned for us
to meet His Son
and welcome Him into our days.

That night all was not calm.
It was however, quite bright.

Your days are full and the advent is
getting closer to the coming King.
This is a time for us
to find our place of
 peace and still.
For the power of the Most High
to be in and with you.

The people are everywhere.
The town is full.

Just as Mary answered,
“Behold, I am the servant of the Lord;
let it be to me according to your word”

So can we answer with that kind of obedience.

Making room for Him
when all is not calm
will bring you to a place of bright
just by trusting.
