This first week of Advent has me wondering… what was the wait like for God?
Can you even imagine waiting for a child to be born for 700 years? That is a crazy long announcement. The calendar of God has always been perfectly planned and carried out.
I have believed with child like faith since I was… a child. But it wasn’t until Bible College class being taught from a deep well of history that my eyes were opened wide.
The God of all creation had a well thought out plan for you and I and has woven the foretelling of His story throughout the Bible, for us all.
The stories Dr. Sprinkle read in our class that semester came to life with the dates and timelines, as we connected the dots in time. How could I not grab hold of such love?
It hit me those weeks of digging deeper into scripture… just because this timeline was written ages ago does not mean it isn’t valid for my life.
700 years ago there was a plan written down for His coming. That is not a small coincidence. That is straight up awestruckness (my new word, but you can try it too).
Sometimes I go back to doubting ( like I go back to the pantry for more handfuls of chocolate chips than I’d care to confess) that the Prophet Isaiah foretold the birth of Jesus centuries before it came to pass.
Isn’t it interesting that we need that newsflash every single year?
We need reminders still today because He came into a busy place then – like we welcome Him each passing year today.
“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call His name Immanuel. – Isaiah 7:14
When someone informs us that something is going to take place in our real, every day lives, and it actually takes place…. we believe their words.
Why would we see an event take place that we were notified of, yet dismiss it as untrue? We have trust issues, I know!
We can gain a confidence in their leading us to that event right?
“Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear and son, and they shall call His name Immanuel, “which is translated, “God with us.” – Matthew 1:23
These prophecies are just that. An epic calendar of events spanning centuries. Are you still with me? God gave us a heads up AND He followed through.
He actually still does this for us. Not only did the prophecy come true but It was a sure sign of His faithfulness to come in our lives.
The season of advent is upon us and this week we celebrate with hope welling up as we wait for the arrival of this foretold Messiah.
As we walk through the next 5 weeks of anticipation, let’s be ones who trust in Gods calendar. Lets dig in deep and find our inner awestricken heart in the midst of busy days, and planners full of things to do and things to go too.
Just resting in the reality of a God who is the ultimate planning and caring and well thought out Messiah, who came just as it was foretold by the prophets is where He wants us.
If you are a little bit like me, I love to cross things off my calendar and I do not love to wait.
God gave us the easy part in the believing process. We get to read both the prophecy and the fulfillment.
They spoke it.
God brought it to pass.
We have the amazing prophecies to encourage our belief.
We can choose to trust and live with eyes wide open this week.
The waiting for Jesus has begun!
Pencil Him in with great anticipation, because you can be sure He is on His way.
